The two biggest concerns in pressure cooking are the gasket seal and the vent tube. Both need to be working properly in order to cook food safely. The gasket is the rubber seal on the inside of the cooker lid. It needs to remain flush against the lid to seal correctly and bring the pressure up. You must do a visual check before putting the lid on and locking it down.
The vent tube is even more important. This is the tube in the center of the cooker lid that vents out the steam. The small weight that jiggles back and forth goes on top of the vent tube.
If the vent tube gets clogged, you can have trouble and even explosions. This is why you must add a little oil to beans when pressure cooking them - otherwise the skins will clog the vent tube. You can usually prevent any problems by checking the vent tube before you cook. Just hold the lid up to the light and looking through the vent tube to be sure it's clear. You can check that gasket at the same time.
Your safety is our concern
To ensure that your CITIZEN Pressure Cooker is absolutely safe it is provided with safety valve plus additional spring loaded safety device.
Pressure weight starts releasing steam at a pressure of 1.1 kg f/cm² to 1.2 kg f/cm² in your pressure cooker. In case your pressure weight is not working or vent pipe is clogged your pressure weight will not function which will result in increase of steam and pressure in your CITIZEN Pressure Cooker. Safety valve is provided for this reason to work in case of failure of functioning of pressure weight. Safety valve works at a pressure of 2.0 kg f/cm² to 2.5 kg f/cm² in your pressure cooker.
This is a normal practice of safety device provided by most of pressure cooker manufacturers but still we hear about accidents and busting of pressure cookers.
To make your pressure cooker absolutely safe it is provided with one more safety feature known as spring loaded safety device. In case of failure of pressure weight (which is supposed to start releasing steam at a pressure of 1.1 kg f/cm² to 1.2 kg f/cm²) the pressure in your ENSIS ™ Pressure Cooker will start increasing. At a pressure of 1.8 kg f/cm² to 2.0 kg f/cm² our specially provided spring loaded safety device will start releasing pressure. Safety valve in your CITIZEN Pressure Cooker will be an additional safety device which will work only in case of both pressure weight failure and spring loaded safety device failure.
Thus there is no need of frequent safety valve change in your CITIZEN Pressure Cooker.
The base of your CITIZEN Pressure Cooker is specially designed to last long without bulging. The specially designed grooves are provided to save costly gas / electricity consumed by the cooker as the flame / heat travels in the grooves only. Thus there is no wastage of costly gas / electricity. This will also result in faster cooking as well. So your CITIZEN Pressure Cooker saves both your time and money.
Important
During regular usage of your CITIZEN Pressure Cooker the main body may become little dark from inside. Though this is not at all harmful nor it will affect the taste of the food but to keep your CITIZEN pressure cooker stain free you are advised to pour 3-4 cups of fresh water and some fresh lemon juice. Put the pressure cooker on the gas burner and heat it till it starts whistling. After appx. 4-5 whistles switch off the burner and leave the cooker to cool down on its own. Drain the liquid and wash the pressure cooker. Repeat this method periodically to keep your pressure cooker stain free.
You are advised to do the above mentioned cleaning with your new pressure cooker before putting it to use to clean it thoroughly and to prevent it from getting darken.
Most of the time, pressure cooking won't be a problem, but you still need to observe caution. Keeping your pressure cooker clean, particularly the lid will also help immensely.
When storing your pressure cooker, be sure to store it with the lid completely detached and to the side of the pot. If you store it closed, you will trap smells and odors inside the pot to greet you on your next usage. Thoroughly wash the silicon rubber seal and rub it with cooking oil after each use to preserve it. Store the valve and silicon rubber seal (if not attached) inside the cooker.
